About
An intricate and facinating blend of Western, Islamic, and Japanese architecture
styles, the Kosaka Mine Office was built in 1905 and served as the administration
office of Kosaka Smelting and Refining Co. Ltd. for nearly a century. When
it was dismantled to make room for a new smelter in 1997, Kosaka Town Office
purchased the building and rebuilt it with over 90 percent of the original
materials in its original specifications on on Meiji Hyakunen Dori. The
Kosaka Mine Office was designated a nationally important cultural property
in 2002.
The Kosaka Mine Office will turn 100 this year!
