Acacia Tree

In the early 1900’s, Kosaka’s mining factories released enormous amounts of sulfur dioxide into the environment which impacted the environment tremendously. To combat the negative effects, 3000 hectares of Acacia trees, which can tolerate sulfur dioxide, were planted starting in 1910 and promoted the revival of the area’s forests. The leaf of the Acacia tree is also used as the logo of Kosaka International Society – a local group of volunteers that organize various events for foreign visitors.
