Seirei High School's Hand Bell Choir
Busy touring both within Akita Prefecture and nationwide, Seirei High School's Hand Bell Choir managed to find time to visit Kosaka. They were able to come here as an extension of their visits to elementary schools in Kazuno. I had imagined scenes of the students being surrounded by an enthusiastic crowd filling the Tenshikan, but on the day only 40 people turned up. Was it lack of interest or simply an inconvenient day? Anyway, a wonderful opportunity was missed.

For the people who came however, they were able to see the hand bell performance up close and personal, making it quite an extravagant experience. The students played Miyazaki movie and Disney movie theme songs, as well as traditional children's songs. Their director Mr. Kumagai told us many interesting things and before we knew it, one hour had passed.

The hand bells are made of copper, so Mr. Kumagai's dream has been to perform in Kosaka, the town most famous for copper production, at the Korakukan. He was glad to be able to perform at the Tenshikan, a location very close to the Korakukan. Thanks to Mr. Kumagai and the students of the hand bell choir for braving the heat that day and sharing their music with us.
