KIS General Meeting - Taiwan&Korea Overseas Trip Report

Over spring break we explored and enjoyed Taiwan. We have tons of thing
we’d like to tell everyone about Taiwan and what it was like to go abroad
for the first time. We will prepare tasty treats and a fun game (with prizes
we brought back from Taiwan)!
If you would like to join next year’s trip, this will be a great opportunity for you to learn what it’s all about.
The adults’ Korea trip participants will also present about their experiences.

Touch Rugby Tournament
Play touch rugby among the blooming acacia trees. It's safe and easy to
learn.
* KIS will be forming teams too, so you can register even as one person. Elementary school and junior high school students welcome. Event may be canceled in event of rain.

Charity Bazaar
Donations Wanted for the Charity Bazaar
Please bring to the Mine Office between June 1 ~ 11 (9 am ~ 7 pm)
Do you have perfectly good stuff lying around in your closet that you never
use? Maybe it’s time for some spring cleaning. Your unwanted goods might
become someone else’s treasures. Proceeds from the charity bazaar will
be donated to help people in need around the world, so your generosity
will be felt two-fold.

Host Families and Host Friends Wanted
We are looking for 10 host families or host friend groups for the JICA
participants. Host families/friends must take their participants out at
least 3 times during the participants' 3 month stay in Kosaka. You can
invite them home for dinner, go shopping, go see a movie, go sightseeing,
anything is OK. If you are interested, please contact the KIS office or
a KIS officer by August 12. Please notify us of any preferences for certain
nationalities or languages.

Seirei High School Handbell Choir Charity Concert

Seirei High Schools Handbell Choir is known worldwide for it's commitment
to charity work. Since it's formation, the choir has been active in giving
concerts at hospitals and welfare facilities. They have also performed
at refugee camps overseas and produced a CD promoting world peace. Perhaps
you have seen them recently on "24 Hour Television," a TV show
about welfare and volunteer work.
KIS has asked them to come to Kosaka through the Akita International Exchange
Network. We thought the Tenshikan would be a perfect backdrop for their
music. Please come out and support them!

Mr. Hosoi, often seen enjoying KIS events in an inebriated state, is leaving
us due to job transfer. So, we are holding an open potluck farewell party
for him. All KIS members, JICA participants, JICA coordinators, everyone
is welcome to attend. Please invite everybody and anybody. You can come
and go whenever you want.
There'll be eating, drinking, dancing, general merrymaking.Be there or
be square.

Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Students Home Stay Programme

Three foreign students studying at Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
Japanese Center are coming to Kosaka during their summer vacation. They
are studying Japanese in preparation for entering universities in Japan.
During their stay, they will be placed with host families so they can learn
about Japanese daily life, culture, and everyday spoken Japanese. We are
looking for host families for these students.

workshop on international exchange. We’ll improve our communication skills
through fun games, learn about foreign residents of Japan, and go over
the basic ground rules of holding a successful international gathering. |
