On the 8th of June KIS held a cricket competition. The weather was superb
on the day. With simplified rules, six teams made up of six people each
battled it out in the blaring sun. A team from Kosaka's primary, junior
and senior high schools turned out. It was a lot of fun. Below are some
reports from the team leaders.
@Cricket is a game that began in Britain and spread over the world with British settlers. Countries such as New Zealand, India, Sri Lanka and the West Indies have international teams, with Australia presently the world champions. And so, three New Zealanders, one Jamaican, and a Scottish lass came to Kosaka expecting to be easy winners. But this was not the case.
@Six teams entered the competition: Tsuru Gattsu (from Kazuno), Hikari (the Junior High school team), Kosaka Senior High ski club, Little Giants (the primary school team), and the KIS team (Kosaka International Society). The first round saw the ALT team knocked out by a determined Hikari team, and a successful Tsuru Gattsu, and a late arriving ALT couldn't do much to help the KIS team.
@By the final Tsuru Gattsu had a good bowling attack and was giving away few runs. While Kosaka Senior High Ski Club were close but didn't quite get there. The end result being:
1st Tsuru Gattsu
2nd Kosaka Senior High Ski Club
3rd Hikari
@Well done to all participants. Cricket is a game foreign to Japan and very difficult to learn in one afternoon. It was a great day. Thank you to the organizers and to all those who participated for their enthusiasm which made it such a good day.

We could never manage to get first place in the Street Hockey Competition that was held up until last year, but this year while being puzzled about the rules we were suddenly able to take first place in the Cricket Competition. Our team has participated in various competitions around the Kazuno/Kosaka area (snowball fights etc), but usually gets defeated in the early rounds so this time we were extremely happy.
On the day, we got to a level of understanding cricket, but we continued to play in a baseball fashion. We thought it would be easy to hit the ball but it was not.
Next time we would like to learn the proper style of the game and continue our winning streak.
Thank you to everyone involved in this event.

We, the Kosaka High School Ski Club, participate in events around the region to interact and deepen friendships between us and the community. We participate in many of Kosaka's events.
As a part of this, we participated in last weeks Towada Mountain Opening Ceremony and the Akashia Festival Cricket Competition.
It was the first time for us to play cricket, but one of the ALTs showed us the knack of bowling the ball so it turned out to be a very enjoyable event. Even with this advice we could not pull off first place and settled for second. We would like to continue to participate in as many Kosaka events as possible. We will encourage our juniors to take first place next year.
Thank you very much for the enjoyable day.
