After the General Meeting the 10th Junior/Senior Overseas Experience Trip Report will be held. The participants who went to New Zealand will announce what they learned and experienced.

Peking and Dalian Overseas Akashia Festival Inspection Study Trip
Friday May 24th - Tuesday 28th May
Destination: Dalian and Peking, China
|
Kosaka Town has a friendly relationship with Dalian City through each others Akashia Festivals which was tied together in 2000. To mark the 30th Anniversary of friendly relations between Japan and China, this year we have planned a study trip to the Dalian Akashia Festival.
The trip was advertised in the last KIS Newsletter and in the Town Newsletter. Three applicants along with representatives from the town left Sendai on the 24th May for a five day, four night study trip.

Akashia Festival@Cricket Competition and Flea Market
Date: 8th June (Saturday)
Time: 11:00~16:00
Place: Town Baseball Park
Cost: 100yen per person (sports insurance fee)
Minimum number of members for a team is six.
Date: 9th June (Sunday)
Time: 10:00~14:00
Place: Kosaka Primary School Entrance

8th June (Saturday) Cricket Competition It is possible to participate without a team (in which case you will become part of the KIS team). There are prizes for the first and second teams.
Application deadline is 6th June (Thursday). Please come along in clothes and shoes suitable for running. KIS will organise the cricket gear. (the game will be postponed if light rain, cancelled if heavy rain)
It is the national sport of Britain and is quite similar to baseball in that it is a bat and ball game. This time we will be using KIS rules. We have made it so that even newcomers can enjoy it so please come along. The explanation of the rules will start at 11am. After that the competition will begin.

9th June (Sunday) Flea Market and Charity Bazaar
We are taking applications for those who want to put up stalls.
Part of the profit of the stalls will be collected by KIS for charity.
We are waiting for you applications.

How about giving Cricket a go? CRICKET CLASS
Date: Sunday 28th July 1pm
Place: Sepamu 2nd floor Lecture Room.
After the video explanation, we will move to the baseball ground.
Time: 1pm - 5pm. (First a video will be showed to give an explanation (about one hour)).
Participation Fee: 100yen per person. (for insurance) |
Since the Akashia Festival Cricket Competition received such favourable responses, KIS will hold another event with the proper rules.
On the day a staff member from an organisation in Japan to promote Cricket will come along and coach. So you can enjoy the real game!
Please call the Kosaka Mining Office to apply. In case of rain, it will
be held in the Sepamu Gymnasium.

Tokyo University of Foreign Studies Students Home Stay Programme
Period: 22nd July ~ 4th August
(Leave Kosaka on the 5th August)
Main work experience: Not decided (It is planed that they will help out
at the Korakukan and Kosaka Mining Office)

This year as well, two students from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies
Japanese Education Centre are scheduled to come and stay for two weeks
in a home stay during their summer holidays.

Rowan's Parents come to Kosaka

The Wright's Welcome Party
Rowan's Parent's (Father Andrew, Mother Sandra) Welcome Party was held at Sepamu on Thursday 1st August at 6pm. It was sponsored by both Kosaka Town and the Kosaka International Society. Over 70 Town Office workers and KIS members turned out for the event showing how well respected Rowan is in the community. It was a really happening party. This years Junior/Senior High School Overseas Experience Trip participants also came along and thanked Rowan's Parents for everything in New Zealand and were pleased to meet them again.
At the end of the party they were both presented with a Hanten (a
Japanese coat). (However Andrew's looked a bit small for him.) Andrew and
Sandra are both cheerful and friendly and the people who participated enjoyed
talking to them.
They also participated in Tanabata, and left on Wednesday happily
after making many wonderful memories. |

JICA Participants Programme
| This year as well, we have planned a Welcome Party, Flag Painting, Japanese
Classes, International Cooking Class, Host Family/Friend Programme and
a Farewell Party. |
We are now taking applications for the Host Friend/Family Programme
From mid August till mid November, for the three months during their stay, you can become their friend and eat together, go out together and enjoy things together. What you do together is entirely up to you but they are not allowed to stay at your house. (it is a general rule that they are not allowed to stay outside the hotel)

Flag Painting and Wine Festival
Time:From 9:30am 16th September
(Wine Festival Day) Place: Central Park (Baseball ground. Behind the back net)

This year we will be painting the two new national flags, Laos and Cuba.
The other National Flags will be touched up and signed. We would like all
the KIS members to come along and help. After that is the Wine Festival
so you can chat with the JICA Participants over a few wines.

How about coming along to our Halloween Party. You can wear whatever you like. Come along in a scary or funny costume or dressed up as your idol. There will be a costume contest, so please do your best to make an impressive costume.

Counterpart Personnel in Mine Development and Exploration course

On the 30th of January 10 JICA Participants from 9 different countries came to Kosaka for the Counterpart Personnel in Mine Development and Exploration course. As it is only a 10 day course we used the only weekend of their stay to hold a tea ceremony and a Setsubun (bean throwing) event on Sunday the 2nd of February. |

Mr.Minamizawa Hideo is an employee of Mutsu City Techinical High School
and a former member of the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers. Ho also
is one of the leaders for the study trip to Malaysia for Senior High School
Students tin Aomiri-ken which is held every year. Please come along and
participate to become more familiar with Malaysia.

Junior/Senior High School Overseas Experience Trip
| Planned for the end of March 2003. |
The aim of this trip is to broaden the minds of Junior and Senior High
School students who are the future of this town. During this trip the students
principally participate in a home stay, while studying English conversation
and enjoying various activities. Through this trip they can see another
country's history, culture, and way of life through their own eyes.
