English Classroom

Of the three years that I spent in Kosaka, I participated in the lunchtime English classroom for latter year and three months. I am not stretching the truth at all when I say that without the english classroom, my life in Kosaka would have been quite empty.

Before then, I had almost never had the chance to speak English in public. After volunteering as a host family for two JICA participants, and seeing how much fun it was to try communicating in English, I joined Raymond's English classroom. Despite the fact that I brought my infant daughter to class, everyone welcomed us warmly, and I was captivated by the weekly english class.

Each participant prepared their own 'greeting', practicing talking about whatever they wanted, so the class was very educational for both speaking and listening practice. Through each person's 'greeting', everyone's personality and uniqueness came out, and our conversations were always quite substantial: sometimes we lauged, sometimes we thought about difficult issues. It was always regrettable when class came to a close

Apart from English study, we had a small party when Raymond's mother came; a birthday party for Raymond; a Christmas party, etc. Thanks to Raymond's personality, we enjoyed a very "at home" atmosphere, and I have many fond memories of the class.

I am no longer living in Kosaka, but I'm secretly hoping that maybe once per year, Raymond will gather the class for some kind of class reunion: )
