Reflections on 'BARAKA'
by Mr.Suzuki from Minetec
Last year, Raymond mentioned that he wanted
to show this movie, a movie with no "Words".
The video was quite intense, and at times
a bit grotesque. Several countries and cultures
appeared throughout the video, including
Japan. There were many images from different
religions, etc. The Director freely juxtaposed
very different images and sounds in an interesting
way; it leaves the viewer with plenty to
think about. I don't doubt that people who
see this film might end up with a different
impression than the makers of the film intended.
Indeed, I think that no two people would
see this film in the same way.
Raymond described this video as a glimpse
into the 'essence' of the earth, and his
comment sticks with me. The movie reminds
me of an old film from an Italian director,
Jacopetti. I think it is a very good video,
and recommend anyone who hasn't seen it to
have Raymond show it to you sometime.
