Halloween Party

This year's Halloween party was definitely a 'must-see' event. The Children in their colourful costumes; Raymond in his Kabuki makeup; Mark came back for a visit, and many other Akita ALT's came to the party in costume. There were almost 70 people in attendance, including some friends who came all the way from Hirosaki (come back anytime!)

The children really enjoyed the Pinata, smashing the horse until the candy and chocolate fell, bobbing for apples, and playing lots of wild games. Until last year, all the kids ended up getting soaked during the apple-bobbing game, but this year everyone seems to have mastered the game, using the stem of the apple to hold onto (clever, aren't they?). The Halloween witch tells me that we should think of a harder game for the kids next year!

After taking a break to eat Halloween Onigiri, drink Witches' brew, and hot chocolate from the JICA researchers, the costume contest was held. Top prizes went to the colourful Santa Claus/ Clown team, and the Bat-girl duo, with their cute wings and masks. However, the angel/devil team was also really good, and I thought the little kitten was cute as well. There were many beautiful princesses, and I liked Dracula's homemade fangs. I also liked the little girl in the Kimono with her coloured hair. My, I just can't stop writing; I liked them all

I think that we should have a costume contest for the adults as well. Mothers and Fathers, won't you come out and participate next year?
