1998 Study

Sightseeing trip to Dailan Acacia Festival

Destination: Dailan, Beijing

The town of Kosaka shares a unique bond with Dailan, as both municipalities have a yearly Acacia festival. This year we started a program that would allow a few regular townsfolk to join the official delegation. The delegation participated in the tenth annual Acacia festival; saw several sites in the Dailan Economic & Technical Development Zone; visited Port Arthur, the Great Wall of China, and the Former Imperial Palace.

International Candy Store & Flea Market at the Acacia Festival

Donated items are sold at a Flea Market, and we will be making many kinds of candy, using recipes from various countries. All profits will be donated to the Japanese Chapter of the Global Programme For Vaccines And Immunization, an organization that gives vaccines to children throughout the world.

Homestay program for the two French Exchange Students

This is the second year that Kosaka has welcomed students from France, and KIS has taken responsibility of the Homestay arrangements for these students. Both Stephanie and Marion study Japanese at home in France, and they came to Kosaka to study Japanese and experience Japanese culture.

Interaction with the JICA Researchers

On Monday, August 17th, 21 JICA Researchers arrived in Kosaka. They will be living in Kosaka until Tuesday November 17th. While they are here, we have planned many events to facilitate interaction with the townsfolk.

We are planning a Canada display booth, and a demonstration of the new homepage. There will also be a display of previous KIS activities. As always, it will be a good opportunity to interact with the JICA researchers.

The eight participating students (3 boys, 5 girls), will leave Kosaka at 12:00pm on March 22nd, and then depart for Paris from Narita Airport. Thefocus of the trip will be the homestay in Lille, which is in northernFrance. Travelling with the students, CIR Raymond Matthias and KIS member Miss.Kawaguchi will act as chaperones. This party is a chance to see thestudents before they leave, and wish them a safe, successful trip. I hopeeveryone will come and join in.
The welcome home party is planned for mid-April.
