High School Student's Overseas Trip

This is one of the larger KIS projects; and this is the 6th time that we have sent a group of Kosaka's youth overseas. This year, we visited Lakewood, California for ten days. Before the trip we held weekly meetings to study English and to build teamwork skills. Finally, the ten students and their two chaperones took off on their big adventure in America. The children were filled with the nervousness of meeting their host families, and having to speak English. On top of this was the tremendous amount of unseasonable rain from El Nino; all things considered, the children were a big ball of stress. However, they soon adjusted to their new environment, and they had an amazing trip. The day they returned was the complete opposite, it was an unforgettable scene, with the children in tears, saying goodbye to their friends. In the end, they had a chance to experience American culture, meet some new friends, and volunteer; I think they all had a good trip, and learned many new things.
